The Church at Batoche

The Church at Batoche

I live not far from here. I have a photo of the church but it is not as interesting as this one. Perhaps if I make it black and white and take the shot from the grass next time I am there. It is a very interesting church and the whole site has such history with the 6 Battle of Batoche.

Welcome to Saskatchewan!

So can you tell where the border is in this video? This used to be the case on a lot of roads that crossed from Alberta to Saskatchewan. It has gotten better. I know the highway from Calgary to Saskatoon is actually better on the Saskatchewan side of the border.

Fallen Barn

There is something that fascinates me about old falling dilapidated barns and buildings in rural Saskatchewan. The stories of the people that used to live and work in these places interests me. Recently we visited the Western Development Museum in Saskatoon. They have a display there called, "Saskatchewan: Winning the Prairie Gamble" that tells the story of a family that settled on the Saskatchewan prairie. If you get a chance go and check it out, it is worth the visit.

Train Snaking Through the Hills

I like this photo. I get a real sense of how big Saskatchewan is from it. The sky, the hills, it is all so BIG!

Brent LeRoy: Want me to fill it up?
Man: Sure. You know I've never driven across Saskatchewan before.
Brent LeRoy: Well, you still haven't really. About halfway to go yet.
Man: Sure is flat.
Brent LeRoy: How do you mean?
Man: You know, flat. Nothing to see.
Brent LeRoy: What do you mean, like topographically? Hey Hank, this guy says Saskatchewan is flat.
Hank Yarbo: How do you mean?
Brent LeRoy: Topographically I guess. He says there's nothin' to see.
Hank Yarbo: There's lots to see. There's nothin' to block your view.
Brent LeRoy: There's lots to see. Nothin' to block your view. Like the mountains back there. They're uh... Well, what the hell? I could've sworn there was a big mountain range back there. Juttin' up into the sky all purple and majestic. I must be thinkin' of a postcard I saw or somethin'. Hey, it is kinda flat, thanks for pointin' that out.
Man: You guys always this sarcastic?
Brent LeRoy: There's nothin' else to do.

Saskatchewan Sky

You can understand why Saskatchewan is the Land of Living Skies. We have such beautiful sunrises and sunsets. In my browsing of flickr for Saskatchewan photos I think I have come across more sunset shots than any other place on earth. I can't prove it of course but there sure is a high percentage of sunset shots. I love the gold and purple in this photo.

I have been exploring Flickr and all of the great photos that there are of Saskatchewan. I came across this one and thought it was a great photo to start posting to Living Skies again. I am hoping to take more photos of our beautiful province this summer to share.
