Saskatchewan: The Province of Weyerhaeuser

I was browsing Youtube for some videos today for my other site www.videorambler.com and I came across this interesting documentary on Weyerhaeuser. While I don't know all the facts, the video raises some interesting points.

From the description of the video:
20 minute video documentary of the human and ecological costs of logging in Saskatchewan by Weyerhaeuser, the worlds largest lumber company.

Latest Rosthern News

Thought I would post about some of the latest news happening here and around Rosthern. Perhaps the two biggest news items are that there is a new debranning plant that has been announced to be built just south of Rosthern and that the new pet food manufacturing plant is now operating.

There was an article in the Saskatchewan Valley News on April 26, 2006 just before the official announcement in Saskatoon. There have been rumors about some type of business coming to town lately, and the fact that I heard the rumors says that it must have been going around for quite awhile, since I am not exactly in on the latest unofficial news around town. If you would like to read the Saskatchewan Valley News article it is posted on the Town of Rosthern website. It will be interesting to see how the town and area changes as the plans for this facility go ahead.

The Horizon Pet Food production facility is also news lately. According to the article in the paper they have started production. I hope that they will be good for the area farmers and other businesses in town. You can learn more about the company at their website. It has been a little while since I visited their website, and I see that they have redesigned it since I was last there. Perhaps when they need a hand updating it I can help them out (hint hint). I have to be less expensive than some Calgary based web design company.

Oh and don't forget that the Valley Regional Park is open so go and get some golfing in.

Well that is the latest news around Rosthern.

Thunderstorm

Well my last post was about snow, and today we got our first thunderstorm. This is not really news to people I guess since it happens all the time. I suppose the only reason I am actually posting it here today is because it is my daughters first thunderstorm. Not that she knows or cares about it, since she is sound asleep, but part of me wanted to post this more so I know and remember. Interesting how the internet is becoming the place to store and share our memories with people.

Snow in May?

What the heck is going on, snow in May? I thought spring was finally here and I wake up to snow. Only in Saskatchewan!
