Saskatchewan has some fantastic stories and great authors and to celebrate Saskatchewan's great stories and authors I have now incorporated a bookstore into Saskatchewan: Land of Living Skies web site. Feel free to browse the selection of books and of course purchase them if you like. All books are listed by Amazon.ca and listed in Canadian dollars.

Saskatchewan Named as Possible Nuclear Waste Site

From the CBC Saskatchewan web site.
A report suggests Saskatchewan would be a good place to dump nuclear waste – and a Saskatchewan government minister agrees the idea shouldn't be ruled out.
Saskatchewan: Land of Living Skies soon to become Saskatchewan: Land of Glowing Skies! Now I know that is not very accurate and the report states that because Saskatchewan is involved in mining uranium we should also consider being a part of the long term storage solution. I can't help but think this is a bad idea for some reason, of course I think that the whole uranium mining industry is a bad idea. I love my province and the great open spaces and lakes that we have. Saskatchewan is a great place to live and raise a family, but to keep it that way we need to not become the great nuclear waste dumping ground. That's my two cents.

Gas Station and Bread

I was travelling between Regina and Saskatoon today and had to stop to fill up the car with gas. I was coming up on Hanley Saskatchewan and pulled in to the gas station. A friendly attendant was soon there to fill up my car and chat about the weather. None of that is particularly surprising if you live in Saskatchewan, most gas station attendants are friendly and will chat about the weather while they fill up your car. What makes this gas station different than most is the unique promotion that they do, which is the very reason I pulled into that station. With every purchase of fuel you get a free loaf of bread. Yes that is correct a free loaf of bread with every fill! Now, I don't know all the details about why they do this or how it got started, but it has been a long standing promotion with this station that you get a free loaf of bread with each fill. The only reason I mention it today is because I have always thought of this promotion as a very unique idea. I mean really who thinks they will get a free loaf of bread when they fill up with gas. I mean a free screwdriver maybe, or perhaps a keychain but a loaf of bread? Just had to talk about it. So if you are travelling between Regina and Saskatoon and need to fill up stop in Hanley Saskatchewan, fill up the car and get that free loaf of bread!

Northern Saskatchewan International Children's Festival

Spring has finally come here in Saskatchewan and my son and I are looking forward to being outside this spring. It is with this thought that I looked up the Northern Saskatchewan International Children's Festival for a great opportunity for our family to take in some entertainment in downtown Saskatoon. The theme for the festival this year is "Making Memories". The festival takes place this year from May 31, 2005 to June 4, 2005 at Kiwanis Park in downtown Saskatoon. There are performances at Knox United Church, St. Paul's Hall, St. John's Hall, St. Andrew's Church and at the South Tent by the Bessborough Hotel. If you want to take in any of the performances you should get your tickets now. Several shows are already sold out and I have no doubt that the shows will sell out quickly. Of course there is always lots to do at the festival even if you don't take in the shows. My son loves to have his face painted every year. So take some time out from your busy schedule and drop down to the Northern Saskatchewan International Children's Festival with your family and have some fun!
