Virtual Saskatchewan

This week I started writing an article about Prince Albert National Park, but I got so carried away in my reminiscing of camping in Prince Albert National Park and of hiking out to Grey Owl's cabin, or canoeing on Kingsmere lake that I never finished the article. One of the reasons I got so carried away in my day dreams about the many fun times I had in Prince Albert National Park was because of a great internet website magazine about Saskatchewan called Virtual Saskatchewan. Their stories about Grey Owl, Prince Albert National Park, Greenwater provincial park, Meadow Lake provincial park, Fort Carlton, La Ronge provincial park and Batoche National Historic Site brought back a lot of great memories and the hopes that I will be able to create many of the same types of memories with my son.

The Virtual Saskatchewan website offers readers many great stories about Saskatchewan people places and events and is a great resource for people that are interested in traveling to Saskatchewan. They have articles about Saskatchewan's great parks, our past, aboriginal stories and even some stories about the more mysterious side of Saskatchewan, like the St. Louis Ghost Train. Go and take a look at Virtual Saskatchewan. You might get so caught up in reading the stories you don't get done what you were working on either.

Oh and to let you in on a little secret, if you happen to look at the About Us page, you will find my name there, since I was the person that originally did the HTML coding for the site when it was being developed in 1996. I have gotten much better since then, you should take a look at my more recent work.

Big Things in Saskatchewan!

If you have been to Saskatchewan at all you have probably noticed that many of our towns and villages have what I like to call "Big Things". If you wanted to you could create a holiday strictly around driving from town to town visiting these "Big Things". Now, there are a lot of "Big Things" across Canada, but in Saskatchewan it seems there is a much higher percentage of "Big Things" than any other province.

I have to admit that I have not had the pleasure of visiting every "Big Thing" there is across the province. In fact I can honestly say I have only stopped and looked at two, but I have sure been tempted to stop and look at more. My curiosity about these "Big Things" by the side of the highway is often hard to contain, but busy schedules often dictate my travel time. I am still very curious about all of these "Big Things" that exist in Saskatchewan and why they came to be.

Now I don't know if I will ever make the time to visit every "Big Thing" there is across Saskatchewan, but I really would like to see all of them. That is where you come in! If you live in a community that has one of these "Big Things" in it, take a picture and send it along to me at bigthings@livingskies.info and I will post it and give you credit for the photo. Remember it has to be a photo you took yourself and don't forget to include what community the "Big Thing" can be found in.
